Both versatile and quickly sewn, it is your stylish companion no matter what. What trendy material will you use for your MarketBAG?

What you'll need

Download sewing pattern

  • Fabric of 60 cm x 120 cm: you can use any woven fabric for the bag (e.g. jeans, nylon, canvas, oilskin, linen, cotton, etc.)
  • SCHMETZ needles suitable for your fabric (take a look at the useful SCHMETZ Needle ABC)
  • Thread to match your fabric
  • A lining is not needed for the MarketBag

Cutting

Cut out the pattern piece twice.

Optionally, you can fold the fabric for cutting (we recommend the fabric break at the bottom) if you have chosen a fabric with a pattern without direction. Be sure to mark the break line on the fabric.

A seam allowance of 1 cm is already included in the pattern.

Position the pattern piece on the fabric and cut around it. Mark the fold lines on the wrong side of the fabric.

Time to get sewing! Sewing instructions

  • STEP 1

Finish the cut edges with an overlock machine (or with the zigzag stitch of the sewing machine), omitting the seam at the bottom of the pocket.

  • STEP 2

Pin the handles of the two pattern pieces right side on right side and sew them together. Iron the seam open.

  • STEP 3

Pin and sew the side seams together. Iron the seams open.

  • STEP 4

Iron the finished edges 1 cm inwards (to the wrong side of the fabric), then topstitch around them.

At the curve you can cut into the fabric by about 7 mm a few times, so that it fits better around the curve.

  • STEP 5

Turn the bag right side out and lay the handles wrong side on wrong side at the fold line. You can now sew the two layers together in the seam. Or you can sew a decorative seam left and right of the seam.

  • STEP 6

    Turn the bag inside out.

Fold both side seams inward along the fold line and pin them to the bottom (or fabric break). You can then finish all the layers together or simply sew them down if you have folded the fabric for cutting.

  • STEP 7

Turn the bag right side out and iron the fold lines.

If you like, you can topstitch along the outer edge of the side seams.
